video

DJ Beto's Panama DJ Mix

November already, wow 2009 has been a rollercoaster for everyone we know, one thing has been really steady all year, the amazing guests and dancers and vibes at the Afrolicious party have been heavy every week.
This week we have the amazing DJ Beto doing a guest spot. Beto just put together some amazing comps for Soundway records. Dig the Panama mix above and check out all volumes of the amazing Panama Compilations on Soundway.

Also tonight the good people at Fania Records have put out a compilation of Tito Rodriguez music (most originally on the Tico label). We have lots of Fania cds, t-shirts and bags for early arrivals tonight.
Dig the Latin Music U.S.A documentary on PBS if you havn't seen it yet, a lot of omissions, but amazing footage from lots of greats.

Thursday Nov 12th (Sebastopol) = Pleasuremaker Band

Afrolicious is honored to have guest djs Robert Luis (Tru-Thoughts, UK) + Tomas Palermo (Volatage Music, SF) and guest mc DJ Collage. Resident selector Señor Oz will be holding it down with guest percussionists for the night while Joey, B Lee and Elrod perform out of town with Pleasuremaker Band.
Trust us you don't want to miss the opportunity to hear these legends of underground soulful dance music.

Rob Luis
(A&R and co-owner) has been a DJ since way back in the day. Since the creation of the label Rob has been 'The DJ' to represent Tru Thoughts, as his eclectic set includes TT gems as well as Dub, Reggae, Hip-hop, World, Funk, Jazz and Soul. He has shared the stage with Quantic, Bonobo, Mr. Scruff, and Nostalgia 77 to name a few. Rob also has a weekly radio show, UNFOLD

Lanu aka Lance Ferguson of The Bamboos favours Broken Beat, Hip-hop, Soul, House, Jazz and Latin rhythms as a DJ - and also incorporates the raw deep Funk sound that he produces for The Bamboos and Kylie Auldist. Has toured all across Europe and Australia, working with Mark de Clive-Lowe, Alice Russell and of course many TT artists. He recently did a nice Soul mix that was featured on Waxpoetics.com.

Tomas Palermo
is a renaissance man of dj culture, holding it down as co-label head of Voltage Music, producing under the Double ID moniker, dj'ng on the regular and on KUSF's Friday Night Sessions, mad writer who was the editor at XLr8R for a long time, and all around great scholar and dj and positive social force!

DJ Collage

Since early 2002, the raggamuffin voice of Mr. Chatman (aka DJ Collage) has been a rising sound within the global music community worldwide. His vocal performances have been featured on top releases by artists such as: Meat Beat Manifesto, Dehli2Dublin, Ghislain Poirier, Machinedrum, Filastine, & several others. And as a live performer, he has performed alongside many top names in the reggae world such as: Yellowman, Collie Buddz, Sly & Robbie, Mad Professor and many more. With his recording collaborations and performances, he has been able to bridge the sounds of reggae dancehall to various forms of music such as Dubstep, Electronica, Hip-Hop & Bhangra. Mr Chatman can also be found found performing at sessions such as San Francisco’s monthly events-Non Stop Bhangra, Dub Mission and his Seattle based Monday night reggae party-Jam Jam.

This Thursday at Afrolicious we have Ikebe Shakedown from Brooklyn. Extremely funky and very talented. expecting big tings! We got to link with these guys when we last played in NYC and their trombonist Nadav sat in on a couple Pleasuremaker tracks. They are currently out West doing a short tour and laying down some recording sessions at Orgone's studio in LA. We are stoked and it's gonna be lively!
